THE SPOTLIGHT is on Newport's carers this week after the launch of National Carers Week.
This year's theme is Opportunities for Carers and aims to provide the many people across Gwent caring for an ill friend or family member with new ways of getting employment, education, or enjoying leisure time.
Christine Hockey, carer support worker for the Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations, said: "We are very excited about our plans for this year.
"Many people who are carers do not recognise themselves as such and therefore miss out on benefits and services which are theirs by right, so we are keen to reach as many carers as possible."
Anyone who considers themselves to be a carer or needs more information should visit Newport Centre today between 11am and 3pm. For more details call 01633 258376 or go to the Provisions Market from 10am to 4pm weekdays.
