THE former Enron site, trading as Rassau Power, on the Rassau Industrial Estate has been sold to Cheltenham-based developer Robert Hitchins.
The 48-acre site was sold by liquidators Pricewater-houseCoopers.
The site had been acquired by Enron in 1996 for the construction of a gas-fired power station.
Unfortunately the project was a casualty of the government's later moratorium on such developments.
The site is within an area zoned for employment use. Chris Sutton, agency partner at commercial estate agents King Sturge, which acted for the liquidator, said: "The Heads of the Valleys area retains a critical mass of manufacturing and service sector industry with little floor space currently available.
"The Enron site is on an established industrial estate with multiple road frontages allowing easy subdivision.
"It is also set to benefit from the current dualling of the A465 Heads of the Valleys road." David Herbert, of Robert Hitchins, said: "Following on from our purchase of Eastern Business Park at St Mellons, and other projects at Cleppa Park in Newport, we are delighted with the portfolio and track record we're creating in South Wales.
"At Rassau we are devising pre-let or pre-sell developments and will be working with the WDA and local authority to achieve this aim."
