ESTATE agents say it's all about location, location, location. But for Newport photographer Rex Moreton, it is the architecture of his home city's streets which has inspired his latest exhibition.
Some of Newport's most stunning houses - many dating back centuries - have caught his eye and he captured them on film.
The photographer, who has more than 40 years experience, has put together an exhibition of 50 houses which he thinks are Newport's finest.
Billed The Survivors, the show runs from Friday, June 20, until August 2, at the Newport Museum and Art Gallery, John Frost Square. Doors open at 7pm.
The mammoth exhibition has been two years in the making. Mr Moreton, of Stow Park Crescent, said: "I came up with the idea after I took some pictures of landmarks in Newport, like the Transporter Bridge and so on.
"It was then I became aware there were a great number of really fine houses in the city." So when Mr Moreton completed his landmarks project he set about creating his next exhibition.
He said: "It's taken about two years to do it all. "It takes that long because you've got to wait for the right weather and make sure there are no cars passing when you're taking the pictures.
"There are other things to take into account as well, like some of the houses were covered in scaffolding. I also had to collect together all the information about the houses I was photographing."
Some of Mr Moreton's top 50 included Cambrian House, near the St David's Foundation, and Tredegar House.
"Some of the house are still lived in but many have been turned into hotels or guest houses," he said.
Mr Moreton told the owners he was taking pictures of their properties and most were delighted.
He said: "Ninety-nine per cent of them were really helpful and they let me into their gardens to take pictures.
"But there were one or two who were a bit iffy."
Of all the houses he's pictured, Mr Moreton's favourite is Cambrian House. He said: "A lot of people don't notice these houses and some of them are just hidden away."
As opening night approaches, Mr Moreton hopes visitors will enjoy the pictures as much as has. He said: "It's just something I felt we should be photographing."
