PONTYPOOL'S history is coming to life thanks to heritage walks in the town. Beginning and ending at Pontypool Museum, the trail takes visitors around some of the most interesting historic buildings and features of the town, including the Victorian market, town hall, library and the park memorial gates.
A leaflet available at Pontypool Museum and other tourist attractions around Torfaen gives travellers a detailed insight into the history of each building and a view of some of the history of the town, from the iron forges and the production of Japanware to the setting of the canals and railways.
Guided walks are also available through the town's historic streets and alleyways. Costumed actors dressed as Lord and Lady Hanbury-Tenison shared their knowledge of Pontypool's history when the project was launched.
They guided councillors, dignitaries and members of the public on the inaugural walk around Pontypool.
