A MAN died in a car crash on a country road outside Chepstow last night. The man, who has not been named but is believed to be a local, died after the Vauxhall Cavalier he was driving was in a collision with a Renault on an isolated country road near Fedw Wood between St Arvans and Devauden at 8.15pm.
Fire crews and an ambulance attended, and the road was closed for several hours as emergency services worked to free the man from the Cavalier, and clear debris. The 41-year-old man driving the Renault was taken to hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries.
Sergeant Martin Wilce, from Gwent Police traffic department, who was at the scene, confirmed a man had died but was unable to release details of his age. He said an investigation would take place.
Inspector Jeff Evans, from Gwent Police's control room at their headquarters in Croesyceiliog, said inquiries were under way last night to trace and inform the dead man's relatives.
