A MUM who has battled breast cancer is now planning to help others by organising a half- marathon walk in Newport.
Sarah MacCallum, from Mardy Lane, Llangynidr, was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago, just four days after her son, Angus, was born.
Thirty-five-year-old Sarah, mum of Liberty, five, and Angus, three, said: "I have been working on the idea of helping charities, along with Newport city council events team, for the past 18 months.
"I want people to be involved in an event that is fun and raises awareness and funds for the charities involved."
Sarah, who noticed a lump in her breast when she was eight and a half months pregnant with her second child, said: "It can happen to anyone.
"After an emotional few days I underwent surgery and the cancerous lump was removed. Then followed eight months of chemotherapy and six weeks of radiotherapy, all while looking after a three-year-old and a newborn baby."
* The walk takes place on Sunday, June 8. It begins at the Riverside car park, Newport, and follows cycle paths and canal paths through the city to return to the car park.
