THERE are two things everyone knows about owls: first, that they can turn their heads round by 360 degrees, and second, that they have perfect night vision.
But a new play for children at Bristol Old Vic tells the story of an owl who was a little bit different.
The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark is adapted from Jill Tomlinson's classic children's book by Bristol Old Vic's artistic director Simon Reade.
Plop is the only owl in the world who is afraid of the dark, and his parents decide it's their duty to introduce him to the wonders of the night.
Jonathan Broadbent takes the lead role, making a welcome return to the theatre after he stunned audiences in October 2002 with his remarkable portrayal of Hally in the Fugard classic, Master Harold and the Boys.
And Jennifer Tubini and Chris Bianchi - last seen in the studio playing Peggy and Giraffe in Four Toys In A Tent - bring their unique magic to the roles of Plop's parents. The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark runs from Wednesday to April 26. Tickets are £7 or £5 concessions. Box office 0117 987 7877.
