ONE of April's guest DJs in South Wales is Seiji who is one of the founding members of the DJ/production collective Bugz in the Attic.

The originator of the West London broken beat scene is primarily a remixer and producer.

The turning point in his career came when working with G-Force on an experimental concept drum'n'bass LP for Reinforced, 4 Hero's legendary label.

It was the canny way in which he mixed together so many different styles that lead to the new sound of broken beat, or what others may term nu-jazz.

Constantly evolving, it's a sound built on broken Afro and Latino house rhythms and is influenced heavily by soul, funk and jazz. The point is that anything goes and the music must keep moving forward.

Also on the same night Cardiff's own High Contrast, who released the acclaimed drum'n'bass album Tru Color's last year, will be playing.

But, for variety's sake, he is leaving his drum'n'bass records at home. Seiji of Buhz in the Attic will play Harmonics at Toucan Club, St Mary Street, Cardiff, on Thursday April 23. Tickets are £5. Dial 07980 017973 for more information.
