ROGER Gibbins is looking for a positive reaction from his Cwmbran Town players during this difficult time following manager Tony Willcox's heart attack.
Cwmbran boss Willcox, who scaled down his football and work commitments after doctors told him he suffered from angina in December, is recovering in the intensive care unit at Cardiff's University of Wales Hospital after being taken ill on Sunday.
Now stand-in boss Gibbins must inspire his players through a tough time as the Crows have crucial league and cup games just around the corner.
Cwmbran travel to Carmarthen's Richmond Park tomorrow (7.30pm) hoping to extend their unbeaten run to ten matches before they host Newton at Cwmbran Stadium on Wednesday, a game which is now in doubt.
The Gwent side are desperate to keep the run going as they aim for a top eight finish to qualify for next season's lucrative FAW Premier Cup.
Gibbins said: "What's happened to Tony has made me and the team put things in perspective. I mean, what is more important than life itself? Everything else, football included, just doesn't seem to matter - and I think the players appreciate that.
"Everyone at Cwmbran - and probably throughout the Welsh Premier League - is thinking of Tony.
"Now, though, I'm looking for a positive reaction from my players. I know it's a difficult time for them but we have got a job to do."
Ninth-placed Cwmbran make the journey west without influential captain and midfielder Sean Wharton and defender Richard David, both nursing knee injuries.
But Gibbins is boosted by the return of striker Chris Summers and midfielder Sean Mainwaring.
Although they are unbeaten in nine, Crows did not play too well at home to Flexys Cefn Druids last Saturday. "We can't go out thinking we've just got to turn up and get a result," said Gibbins.
"We've had a good run but it's vitally important to keep that sort of form going if we are to qualify for next season's money-spinning FAW Premier Cup."
The Crows temporarily shelve their league programme when they meet Welsh League Ton Pentre in the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup. "The Welsh Cup is an obvious priority but we still want to do well in the league," added Gibbins.
