Goalkeeper Paul Jones (pictured) admits his next games for Wales are the perfect opportunity to put himself in the shop window for next season.

Jones, with 29 caps, has been a frustrated spectator on the Southampton bench for much of the season, the 35-year-old shot stopper playing second fiddle to Finnish 'keeper Anti Niemi.

But as he enters the final years of his career he admits he is in desperate need of regular first team football in order to keep his Wales place.

"I'd like to think most managers know what I'm capable of and that they know I'm still a decent 'keeper," said Jones.

"But the next Wales games definitely give me an opportunity to remind managers what I can do.

"It's been a frustrating season and it's not ideal for Mark Hughes to have his number one sitting on the bench week in, week out.

"But I've kept myself sharp and that's all I can do. Mark has been keeping a close eye on me in training and it's up to to him to decide whether I play or not."

Wales take on Azerbaijan on Saturday and Jones says: "Victory would set us up nicely for our remaining games and considering the position we are in then we'd almost be there."

Saturday's game sold out in just over 24 hours and the expectation on the Welsh side will be massive, but Jones has urged the 70,000 Welsh fans who will be packed in the Millennium Stadium to be patient.

"The pressure on us will be huge but the supporters need to realistic," said Jones.

"We may have beaten Azerbaijan out in their place but this game is not a forgone conclusion.

"It's not going to be easy and the fans need to be patient. They need to realise that we're not going to be four up after only 20 minutes.

"It's going to be a tough match and we have to be right on top of our game."
