DAVID Llewellyn has proved all the doubters wrong.

The scrum-half's career is back on course after major Achilles tendon trouble seemed certain to end it.

Three operations and three years after Llewellyn last played a senior match for Newport he followed up his ten minutes against Swansea with the whole second-half against Caerphilly last night.

Llewellyn's persistence has finally been rewarded.

"It's nice to get out there and get into the game," said a relieved Llewellyn.

"The leg has been getting stronger week by week, I just need some games now.

"The reaction of the crowd has been very rewarding and it's a big relief, I've proved the doubters wrong "A lot of people said I'd never be back which is a challenge in itself. Now it's nice to be part of a big win.

"Caerphilly have turned over some big teams so it's nice to come here and get a big result."

Things seem to be going right for coach Leigh Jones as a difficult season ends its crucial final stages.

"We've been threatening to put in a quality performance for some time,- and we did just that," he said.

"We sustained a tempo that Caerphilly couldn't live with and put them to the sword in the second half. We could have scored even more points but I'm pleased with a thoroughly professional performance.

"We laid to rest the theory that we can't play for the full 80 minutes. It's been a long time coming but we're hitting form now which is as good a time as any.

"With the league title and the cup to chase if we can build on this we'll be there or thereabouts."
