NATIONAL coach Steve Hansen (pictured) has urged Wales to have more self belief not just as a rugby team, but as a nation.

His side are in danger of being labelled as a team of rugby losers after going down against New Zealand, Italy, England and Scotland in their last four matches.

It's going to be difficult to break the mould against Ireland at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday and France the following week. If they fail to do so Wales will be whitewashed.

Hansen believes it's all in the Wales psyche. "It's more than on the sports field, it's been happening for years," claimed Hansen.

"Somehow as a nation you've got to shake off the shackles and have more belief in yourselves. "Early in life Welsh persons have been beaten up by England.

"You don't have your own government, the Assembly is here, but it's pretty toothless, so you're struggling for your own identity."

And Hansen rejected criticism that the Welsh team has been affected by staying at their Vale of Glamorgan headquarters for weeks on end.

"That's a fallacy, we haven't stayed here all the time," said Hansen at yesterday's Press conference.

"The local guys have been going home, only the Swansea and Llanelli boys have been staying here.

"Last week we spent one night here. People are reading more into it than there is, they are here for training but not necessarily staying here.

"You're here to do a job, and we've got a lot of work to do because a lot of work is not done at another level."

Jonathan Humphreys has been recalled as Wales captain he's one of seven changes, two positional, with Rhys Williams switching to full back and Dafydd Jones to number eight.

Mark Jones is back on the wing, while Wales' most capped forward Gareth Llewellyn is back, deposed captain Colin Charvis has completed his rehabilitation by returning as blindside flanker and Gethin Jenkins makes his first start at tight-head prop, though normally a loose-head.
