PEOPLE from St Julians in Newport took part in a sponsored Walk for Water on Saturday to raise money for people in drought-hit Ghana.
Around 50 people of all ages, plus a couple of dogs, turned up to walk the seven miles from St Julians to Caerleon and back - the distance women in some Ghanaian villages have to walk twice each day to obtain fresh water.
The walk was organised by members of St Julians and Aaron Parish Church, who have raised around £800 for the charity Water Aid.
The money will enable the charity to send plumbers and engineers to Ghana to fit water pumps, taps and latrines in rural villages.
