THE Labour Party has unveiled the shortlist of members bidding to become its Assembly election candidate for Caerphilly in the wake of former Welsh Secretary Ron Davies' departure from politics.
Party bosses selected five names from the 30 who applied before nominations closed. The final decision will be made following a hustings session tomorrow evening, in a secret ballot of constituency members.
Up to 450 people could turn up for the vote.
Favourite to win the candidacy is Caerphilly constituency party chairman Jeff Cuthbert.
The others on the list are Caerphilly councillor Paul Ford, MSF union official Martin Mansfield, Royal College of Nursing officer Angharad Davies and Barbara Jones, a local party activist.
