NEIGHBOURS last night paid tribute to Newport man Tom Fisher who died in an horrific crash motorway crash.

Mr Fisher, aged 60, from the Alway area of Newport, died on Tuesday when the Ford Ka he was in was involved in an accident with two other cars, a van and a lorry on the M4 near Bristol.

The woman he was travelling with, a 20-year old from Cardiff thought to be an employee of Mr Fisher, also died.

A man from London died in one of the other vehicles. The accident happened shortly before 7pm on Tuesday on the London-bound carriageway of the M4 just past the junction with the M32. The cause of the crash is so far unclear.

The driver of the lorry, a 49-year-old man from North Scarborough, was yesterday arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was bailed pending further inquiries.

Mr Fisher, of Vaughan Williams Drive, Alway, is thought to have worked for a computer company.

Yesterday, neighbours expressed their shock over the tragic accident. Mrs Barbara Williams, 68, a neighbour, said: "It is a terrible shame, he was a very nice chap.

"He lived next door with his wife, they have been there a couple of years. He was always very helpful and always working in the garden.

"It is very sad and he will be terribly missed by everyone around here." Frank Hopper, aged 50, lives across the road from the Fishers. He said: "I am really shocked, I can't believe it. His mother-in-law was over here on Tuesday and said Tom was out for the day at a meeting and now I can't believe that he was in this accident.

"He was always a good neighbour, always busy doing the house up, he never stopped. I for one will miss him around the area."

Mr Fisher's wife is being comforted at home by police family-liaison officers.
