TWO teenagers fled a crash scene and caused chaos as they tried to evade police.
The pair, thought to be aged around 18, were involved in a two-car crash on Newport's Duffryn estate yesterday afternoon.
Their car collided with a silver estate driven by an elderly woman, thought to live locally. She was unhurt but was shaken by the crash, and was taken to Newport's Royal Gwent Hospital.
The two youths fled the crash, which happened at around 2.30pm, in Partridge Way, and ran inside a nearby house in Chaffinch Way.
One pushed past the startled occupants and hid in the attic, where he then tried to break through to the house next door and escape.
Police officers called to the accident also went to the house and arrested one suspect outside the property.
Police dogs were then brought into the house to try to track down the second youth. He was eventually found in the attic.
According to one resident, who did not want to be named, the house was 'ransacked' during the incident, and it is understood that a policeman put his foot through the floor of the attic while searching for the suspect.
Following their arrest the pair were taken to Cwmbran police station, where they continue to be questioned.
A spokesman for Gwent Police said the car they were driving was present at the scene of a theft earlier in the day at Tesco's store in Pontypridd.
Details of the two youths arrested on the Duffryn estate have also been passed to South Wales police.
Tredegar Park Councillor Gary Brown told the Argus he was ""shocked" at the incident. "These people will have to face the music for what they have done," he said.
Councillor Brown will raise the issue with police at Friday's neighbourhood committee meeting.
