GIRLS from all over Newport are taking part in a fashion extravaganza to celebrate International Women's Day.
The show, at the Kings Hotel, High Street, Newport, next Saturday, will raise money for breast cancer charity Breakthrough. The all-women affair will feature 50 girls, aged 12 to 18, from youth clubs all over Newport and incorporate youngsters from different backgrounds and cultures.
Sally-Anne Evans of the Arts Development Council has overseen the project but has been supported by the Wom-en's World Forum, a group of 10 girls that formed in Octo-ber to plan an event for Inter-national Women's Day which is on Sunday.
Mrs Evans said: "Young women of this age have never had the chance to celebrate International Women's Day in Newport. The forum has decided everything from costume issues to what the venue should be, they've been fantastic.
"We've aimed at looking at international women in the Newport community because there are so many different cultures represented in the city."
The event has been supported by local businesses, such as clothes shops Koaa and Retrocentric, who will both sell clothes on the night and donate some of the profits to charity.
Boots have provided raffle prizes and a health and beauty pack for each audience member.
Tickets for the event, which starts at 7pm, are £3.50 and £2 concessionary. Call 01633 232824.
