NEWBRIDGE will go clear third in the Welsh First Division table tonight if they beat Gwent neighbours Tredegar at Tredegar Recreation Ground.
It had been thought the game might be switched because of the need for repairs to some of the the Tredegar floodlights, but the club have hired a portable set to boost their own.
"Historically, we have usually done well against Newbridge on our home ground and it would have been a blow if, because of the situation with the lights, we'd had to forfeit ground advantage," said Tredegar coach Robert Johnstone.
"We have won our last three games and it should have been four because we should have won at Cross Keys.
"We played particularly well against Whitland just over a week ago and I think we have a chance against Newbridge.
"But they have a match-winner in outside half Jason Williams, who can win tight games with his goal-kicking, and the importance of discipline is certainly a message we've got to get over to the players."
Newbridge coach Jonathan Westwood was disappointed with his team's display in their 12-6 home win over Whitland on Saturday and says they will have to play much better to win tonight.
"We played very poorly and I don't think we can make the excuse of rustiness," said Westwood.
"It was a case of the vast majority of the side not playing to their optimum. It will be very difficult against Tredegar and there will be a lot of pride at stake.
"Our aim is to win as many of our remaining games as we can and hopefully we'll put on a better show this time."
Because of a few injury niggles, particularly to scrum half Shane Pinch and prop Ian Jones, Tredegar delay naming their side until just before kick-off.
Newbridge: H Lock; P Collett, G Turner, S Webley, N McKim; J Williams, M Sage; A Oliver, D Williams, P Taylor, M Penny, A Edwards, M Ackerman, G Gladwyn, G Howells. Replacements from rest of squad. Kick-off 7.15pm.
