NEWBRIDGE skipper Damien Cooper (pictured) enjoyed his side's Principality Cup clash against Premier giants Llanelli at the Welfare Ground last season, writes Paul Tully.
But as much as he and his team-mates would love to repeat the experience this time around, their big target remains a top three finish in Division One.
The changes being mooted in Welsh rugby suggest the top three sides will form a new semi-pro Premier Division next season below a regional set-up.
"That has to be the priority," said Cooper. "We have got to try to finish in the top three. It'll be an exciting time.
"We have got some tough games and because we lost some silly games earlier in the season it's going to be difficult. We may have to win them all.
"But we know what's at stake and that has to be our main focus of attention."
Having said that, Cooper added: "The club are putting a lot of emphasis on the cup because it's a money spinner.
"The players did well against Llanelli last season (going down 24-5) and would love another pop at one of the big sides.
"I think there are a couple we could surprise if given the chance."
But first Newbridge have to win at Narberth on Saturday, having lost 31-19 there in the opening game of the season and struggling to beat them 28-24 at home last month.
"It's going to be hard. Because of their league position they'll probably be concentrating on the cup and they do take a bit of beating," said Cooper.
"We should be too strong for them up front and the team feels confident."
