A NEWPORT head teacher is being nominated for a 2003 Teaching Award by the mother of one of her pupils.
Christine Jackson, head of Glasllwch Primary School, in Melbourne Way, Newport, said she was shocked to be nominated: "It came as a complete surprise to me," she said.
"It's a real honour. We have a happy school here, and all the parents are very supportive. The staff are great, and this award will be for them as much as for me."
Mrs Jackson was nominated by Kathryn Watson, whose daughter, Becquerel, aged six, is in Year Two at the school. Mrs Watson said: "Mrs Jackson is an excellent head teacher.
She is approachable, friendly, dedicated and concerned for every child in the school. Becquerel adores her, and she deals with any problems or difficulties straightaway."
Mrs Jackson's staff will now endorse her nomination so she can proceed to the next stage, the Regional Award Ceremonies.
The Teaching Awards highlight excellence and encourage best practice in teaching by raising the profile and public perception of the teaching profession. The National Awards Ceremony is televised annually on BBC1.
Regional winners take back a prize package of cash and equipment worth more than £3,000 to their schools.
