THE Sights' debut UK tour will take them to Bristol's Louisiana next month. Another retro band from Detroit, The Sights have been hailed as great songwriters and stylish rock'n'rollers.
With a definite nod to 60s garage groups and a bass heavy goodtime feel they seemed ideally suited to thrive in the current farrago of familiar sounds.
There's plenty of Small Faces-like songs played with a 70s-like boogie on a Phil Spector-like wall of sound.
The Zombies, Rolling Stones, Big Star and The Band are also good reference points. The music makers are Eddie Baranek (guitar, vocals), Matt Hatch (bass, vocals), Dave Shettler (drums, vocals) and Nate Cavalieri (keyboards).
They played their debut gig in July 1998 and were quickly accepted by Detroit scene uber-lords such as Cobras, The Paybacks, The Dirtbombs and The Hentchmen. Their debut recording was released by the city's short-lived Spectator in 1999 and re-released in 2000 by Los Angeles-based independent Fall Of Rome Records.
After two singles for Fall of Rome in the summer of 2001, came the band's sophomore full-length, Got What We Want, which was recorded in December 2001 at the illustrious Ghetto Recorders in the heart of downtown Detroit.
The Sights squeeze themselves into the Louisiana on Saturday, February 22. Tickets are £5.
