A MAN is "lucky to be alive" after his car careered down this steep 30ft embankment. The 23-year-old from the Brynmawr area escaped unharmed when his red Vauxhall Nova plummeted through railings in High Street, Llanhilleth near the Llanhilleth, Hotel at 10.27pm on Tuesday.

The man was initially trapped in the vehicle and a Green Goddess was sent to his rescue during the 24-hour fire strike.

But he managed to free himself from the vehicle.

PC Tim Williams, from Llanhilleth police, said: "I'm surprised he got out of it alive." The man was arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail until January 30.
