NEWPORT aim to use their exciting 42-32 Heineken Cup victory over Edinburgh on Saturday to launch a Principality Cup challenge and climb towards the top of the Welsh League table.
"The Premiership and the Principality Cup are our last chances to aim for a title," said coach Leigh Jones in the programme notes for Saturday's clash.
"Our European dreams may have been dashed but there still remains plenty to play for this season.
"If we can string a few wins together we could get close to the top of the Premiership table in no time."
And after Newport's 42-32 Saturday triumph skipper Simon Raiwalui added: "It's important we have a good run now and try to get a few wins before the Six Nations.
"We are going to really strive to put a good run on and carry on from here.
"We know we have a lot of things still to work on, but the spirit's still there, and the effort.
"If we can play with that sort of intensity and freedom we can string a few wins together."
He added: "It was a huge result. Any time you take a beating like the one in Toulouse you have to pull together and come back strong and we did that.
"We put ourselves under a bit of unnecessary pressure but when the chips were down and they got close we dug deep, showed a lot of guts and clawed out the win."
Jones said: "The win was very important. You could see that for 15 or 20 minutes the lads were snatching at things and were very nervous.
"Fortunately, we then got a score to settle the nerves but I was a little annoyed we then managed to build ourselves a platform to get away from them and then switched off for ten minutes before half time to allow them to get back in the game.
"We have done that so many times this season and we have to learn from our mistakes.
"Fortunately, we regrouped at the interval and re-won the game as it were.
"It was a huge effort and on that score you can't fault the lads all season.
"We have a platform now to build on for Pontypridd next week. They'll come here very much as favourites and it will be interesting to see how effective we are against them.
"You have to build on your victories. We have one now ... and we'll be very, very confident and looking for a second win."
Edinburgh coach Frank Hadden commented: "I felt the critical moment was being reduced to 14 men with seven or eight minutes to go.
"The tide had turned in our favour, we were on a roll and looked as though we were going to win.
"In the first 15 minutes I was a bit concerned that we hadn't turned up but I felt we dug deep and stung Newport and thereafter were the dominant side.
"Newport showed a lot of guts after being stung the previous week, but let's not forget how good Toulouse are.
"People not in our group are making light of them, but unquestionably they are the best club side I've seen for a long, long time."
