THE agonising wait goes on today for the family of missing Blaenavon man Richard Davies.
They were still waiting to find out whether a body pulled from the River Taff in Cardiff is that of the father-of-two.
The man's body was recovered from the River Taff on Wednesday afternoon, but it has still not been officially identified as missing Mr Davies by South Wales Police.
Police have revealed the body was wearing similar clothes to those that Mr Davies was last seen in when he disappeared from a Cardiff nightspot on December 20.
The body was found about 100 yards away from where a man was seen swimming in the river on that night.
Following the grim discovery, the body was taken to the University of Wales Hospital, Cardiff, where a post-mortem examination was carried out.
His family have been informed of the discovery but are waiting for confirmation of the identity of the body from dental records.
Mr Davies went missing from the Reflex bar in St Mary's Street in Cardiff 20 while on his work's Christmas party.
An initial search of the river was carried out but nothing was found, but South Wales Police decided to carry out more detailed searches of the river with specialist sub aqua teams.
Despite appeals police have been unable to trace Mr Davies or the man seen in the water.
DC Stuart Summers said: "The man has not been identified but as a precaution the family of Richard Davies has been told about the discovery."
Mr Davies' wife Michelle, of Avon Road, has always claimed his disappearance was totally out of character.
His disappearance has meant his family, including his two children, Justin, aged 13, and Charlotte, ten, have had to spend Christmas and New Year without the 39-year-old. They have kept his Christmas presents for him in the hope that he may return.
Mrs Davies said: "Everything revolves around him, he worships his children and they are the most important things to him." "He is a good father."
