A RETIRING police officer made a special delivery to a Newport school. PC John Spragg, of Pill police, donated £680 to Pillgwenlly Primary School, which they spent on play equipment.
PC Spragg, who is retiring next month after 36 years on the force, said: "We had lots of money left over from the fireworks bonanza which we usually hold in Pill. Because it has been cancelled for the last few years there was over £1200 in the kitty. I decided to share the cash around equally between the two schools in Pill."
Pillgwenlly Primary used the money to purchase outdoor sports equipment for the junior section of the school, and indoor play equipment such as board games for all pupils to use at break times when it rains.
Head teacher Mrs Jill Richards said: "This donation is brilliant because we are doing a lot of work in the school in making playtimes enjoyable, and keeping the pupils happy. I would like to thank PC Spragg for his hard work and wish him a very happy retirement."
