ROGER Gibbins has vowed to inject new life into Cwmbran Town's depleted squad as he looks to reignite his side's stuttering season.

The Crows' temporary chief, who's holding the fort while Tony Willcox recovers from a heart condition, is desperate to push the Cwmbran Stadium outfit back up among the elite of the Welsh Premier League.

Cwmbran are going through one of their toughest times in their 11 years in Wales' top-flight division as they languish in ninth-place.

But, now the transfer window has opened, Gibbins is on the look-out for fresh blood to spark his side back into life - but his staying tight-lipped on who tops his wish-list.

Saying that, Gibbins must been buoyed by recent performances, battling draws with Bangor City and Aberystwyth Town and a narrow defeat to Barry Town.

But he said: "I admit we have a depleted squad. For last week's game with Barry, we only had 13 senior players available for whatever reason.

"We haven't got that big a squad and we must realise that, so we must get one or two players in now the transfer window has opened just to boost the squad and up team morale.

"But it's no good signing just anyone, they must be better than what we're already got." Cwmbran welcome back influential skipper Sean Wharton after suspension for their trip to Carmarthen Town (2.30pm). The Crows are without a win in seven league away games.

Town have only won twice away from Cwmbran Stadium this term and Gibbins adds: "Over the years, our form on the road has always been one of the best in the league but this season it has been the most disappointing aspect of the campaign."

Gibbins has also praised the efforts of his players in recent weeks.

He added: "I felt the effort wasn't there in the first part of the season," he said. "But I feel it's back now and that is pleasing."

Striker Mark Dunn, midfielder Nathan Wigg and defender Neil Smothers all return for Cwmbran tomorrow while Sean Mainwaring ('flu) and Chris Watkins (ankle) both face fitness tests.
