BRAVE Newport youngster Masey James will be a VIP for the day after being invited to Parliament.

Quick-thinking Masey, seven, risked her life to shield her little brother Curtis when a Welsh dresser toppled over at their Risca home.

She sprang into action and pushed the three-year-old out of the way. But the dresser fell on Masey instead and she was rushed to the Royal Gwent Hospital with a suspected fractured skull.

Fortunately an X-ray revealed she escaped with severe bruising. Masey, of Fairview Avenue, Ty-Sign, Risca, was a guest at the Argus and Big W Christmas Party, after being praised for risking her own life to save her little brother.

The Argus featured Masey's courage when she received a gift from Santa at our annual Christmas toy appeal held at the Big W last month.

The event was organised to recognise extra special youngsters in Gwent. After reading about the Ty-Sign pupil's heart-warming tale, MP Don Touhig invited her to Westminster for tea and cake on Monday, February 10.

He said: "I was so impressed by the story I read in the Argus that I was moved to write to her."

Mr Touhig asked Masey and her family, including dad Graham James, 31, to join him in one of the tea rooms at the Houses of Parliament.

Proud mum Michelle James Loisz, 29, received a card and letter just before Christmas from Mr Touhig, explaining how impressed he was by Masey's actions.

She said: "I thought it was a joke at first - I couldn't believe it. "Masey is really excited, like a bottle of pop.

"Masey knows where she's going. I've shown her the House of Commons on the television, although she said she didn't want to meet Tony Blair because she didn't like him!"

Mr Touhig: "I think it's important that we recognise these unselfish acts - especially from ones so young."
