NATHAN Davies is desperate to solve his back injury before Newport County's FAW Premier Cup quarter-final with Swansea City - a game that will be shown live on BBC Wales TV.

The 20-year-old midfielder hobbled out of County's 2-1 Boxing Day win over Worcester City with back trouble and today the Welsh semi-pro international will consult a specialist.

And Davies' recovery was given an extra spur when FAW Premier Cup backers BBC Wales announced they will screen County's January 28 last eight clash with Third Division Swans at Newport Stadium live on BBC 2 - earning the Exiles a £5,000 windfall.

Davies beamed: "These are much-needed funds for the club after we were knocked out of the FA Cup earlier than expected to Team Bath.

"That defeat was disappointing, but now we have been given the chance to play Football League opposition, and that's great.

"But we're not going to be afraid of Swansea and there is a real feeling that we can cause an upset. And the match being live on television to the whole of Wales will give us added incentive."

Swansea are bottom of Division Three without an away victory so Newport, managed by former Swans assistant Peter Nicholas, will fancy their chances which would add a further £10,000 to the current £21,500 they have already banked from the competition.

But Davies is facing a race-against-time to be fit for the showdown.

"Non-league players love to test and compare themselves against opposition from the Football League so I'm desperate to play," he said.

Tickets for the game go on sale on Monday at Newport Stadium. Prices for the all-ticket grandstand are £7.50 for adults, £5 concessions.

Admission to the new covered terrace, due to open for County's game with Bath on January 25, is £7.50 adults, £5 senior citizens, £2 juniors - and it's pay at the turnstiles. Season ticket holders have until January 21 to claim their seats.
