ABERTILLERY have carried out their threat and become the second side to pull out of the fifth round of this year's Principality Cup after the draw turned into a shambles.

The Gwent side had been scheduled to visit the First Division champions Aberavon on December 21, but after a meeting with the players and committee last night, the club have decided to inform the Welsh Rugby Union of their decision to withdraw.

The fuss erupted after Carmarthen Athletic were included in the draw despite being knocked out by Maesteg in the previous round and Abertillery are insisting there should be a re-draw of the competition.

Brynmawr became the first side to pull out of the cup, insisting on a re-draw, last weekend.

However, the WRU's general committee have ruled out any prospect of a re-draw.

Abertillery chairman Martin Edwards said: "We are going to pull out of the competition. We have already informed Aberavon and we will inform the WRU.

"We feel there should have been a re-draw and there is still time to do one.

"The decision was taken unanimously last night because of the situation, everyone thought it was the right thing to do."

A WRU spokesman said: "It's sad that Abertillery have taken this action, but the general committee decided last week that the draw stands."
