BARRY Town have been given a Friday deadline to pay their £10,000 debt to Newport County or face being wound up.
The Exiles have reached the end of their tether with the Welsh double winners, who owe the Dr Martens Premier League club £10,000 after they sold ex-County midfielder Mike Flynn to Second Division Wigan Athletic.
When County let Newport-born Flynn go to the Dragons on a free transfer in November 2000, they included a sell-on clause in the deal and that became active when the Welsh semi-pro star moved to Wigan for £15,000 in June, earning Newport a £10,000 cash windfall.
But, almost six months after the deal, Newport haven't received a penny and Flynn himself is owed £2,000 in unpaid wages and bonuses.
Barry chairman Kevin Green insists the debt will be honoured but now Newport have told Barry to pay up by Friday or face legal action.
Board member Steve Sulley said: "Barry have told us three or four times that the situation will be resolved so we'll only believe it when we see it.
"We don't want to issue a winding-up order on another club but this is a last-ditch attempt to get the money we are owed.
"We have waited long enough for this money so we have set them a deadline. They need to pay-up by Friday or face legal action," he warned.
County's solicitors served Barry with a statutory notice on October 31, giving them three weeks to hand over the cash but the Exiles heard nothing.
Now their legal team are preparing Newport's case for this final attempt to get their cash.
County chairman Wallace Brown, who was just a fan when the old Newport County were wound-up in 1989, insisted: "We don't want to have to do this to another football club.
"Everyone at Newport County can remember when the old club was wound-up - and it hurts.
"But the money is outstanding and should have been paid."
