RUSSIA'S newest opera company bring one of the world's best-loved operas to Cardiff this evening when they perform Puccini's masterpiece, Madama Butterfly.
The Russian State Opera of Rostov was founded only three years ago but has already established itself as a force to be reckoned with.
Under artistic director Vyacheslav Kuschev the company has quickly made its name by employing spectacular sets and inspired performers.
This production of Madama Butterfly was staged for the company by Yuri Alexandrov, opera director of the Kirov.
The epic Japanese tragedy of love and betrayal is performed by a company of 100 in Italian, with English subtitles.
It includes some of Puccini's most poignant and beautiful music, from the Flower Duet to Un Bel Di Vedremo and the famous love duet Viene La Sera.
Madama Butterfly is at St David's Hall, Cardiff, tonight. Tickets range from £15.50 to £32.50 and the show starts at 7.30pm. Box office 02920 878444.
