A RETRIAL has been ordered into the case of a Frenchman charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of a Gwent ambulanceman.
Arnaud Caudal, 27, who now lives in Myrtle Close, Rogerstone, was accused of causing the death by dangerous driving of cyclist and father-of-three Graham Price, 47 (pictured). Yesterday a jury at Newport crown court did not return a verdict. Recorder M Evans ordered a retrial.
Mr Price died after a crash on the Rogerstone slip road of the A467 Risca bypass at 7.15am on December 17 last year.
On hearing of the retrial, Mr Price's wife Jane, of Caernarvon Drive, Rhiwderin, said yesterday: "It's been a stressful time for the family and I did expect a decision today. "Thank God for the support of family, friends and the police family liason officer. "I will attend the retrial as I want this matter sorted."
The recorder discharged the jury of 12 and assured them they had not failed to do their duty. The retrial could take place next month.
Both Mr Price, an ambulanceman and keen cyclist, and Caudal, a French national working at Yuasa Batteries, Ebbw Vale, were travelling to work on the morning of the accident.
Mr Price, who once represented Wales in cycle racing, died three days later from head injuries at University of Wales Hospital, Cardiff. He leaves three teenage children.
