SPECIALIST divers yesterday joined the search for missing schoolgirl Jenna Baldwin. Police sub-aqua teams were brought in as the hunt for the missing schoolgirl was carried out in the Afon Llywd and Keeper's Pond, close to where she lived.
The 15-year-old, from Abersychan, disappeared from her home on September 10. The Argus revealed on Tuesday that her mother, Desiree, has now accepted her daughter is dead.
Detectives appealed for information at the end of last week after revealing that a missing shovel could be the vital clue to her whereabouts.
But as an underwater search team trawled the Afon Llywd, detectives announced a shovel recovered from the river has been eliminated from the inquiry.
Search teams are continuing to comb the area around Jenna's home as part of an extensive operation which is now into its third week.
Jenna's stepfather, Michael Baldwin, of Lime Kiln Road, Pontnewynydd, remains in custody after being arrested by police and charged with murder.
It is now more than nine weeks since Jenna disappeared, but her body has not yet been found despite extensive searches.
Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 01495 232260.
