Newport County are desperately trying to gain some sort of rhythm after a rollercoaster opening and boss Tim Harris has warned there could be more player movement before consistency is achieved.

With four players - centre-back Billy Clark and midfield trio Scott Walker, Steve Cowe and Dave D'Auria - on the transfer list Harris admits there's "a lot of activity going on behind the scene" to freshen up a County side that currently lacks that killer instinct.

The County boss is on the look-out for a striker to snap them out of their goal-shy attitude, adding: "If we can score ten percent of our chances we'd win games by three or four goals. We're just not lethal enough."

A long-term cruciate knee ligament injury to Welsh semi-pro striker Mark Dickeson has limited Harris' options up-front but Neil Davis has acored eight goals in 18 games.

"The whole team has got to take responsibility," said Harris, who has already released his captain Darren Robison and replaced him with Matt Rose.

"Our failure to score is not down to our pattern, system or shape, it's just that we're lacking confidence in front of goal.

"If we had a bad shape we would be leaking goals at one end while not creating chances at the other.

"Sooner or later the ball will break our way and the goals will come. We'll score via someone's back-side or shin and hopefully that will kick-start our season."

County visit Grantham Town tomorrow (3pm) in the Dr Martens Premier League after scoring only five goals in seven games in all competitions, losing three, winning two and drawing two.

Before that run Harris' men were unbeaten in seven, and before that County lost five on the spin after opening the season with three wins.

"It has been an up-and-down season for us so far," said Harris. "But we need to get on an unbeaten run and charge back up the table."

County have beaten Grantham, unbeaten at home this term, in their last six meetings. Harris will be boosted as Town's nine-goal top-scorer Jamie Clarke, who has caught the eye of Premiership giants Middlesbrough and Nationwide League Division Two Crewe Alexandra, is sidelined with a broken leg.

Clarke, who has scored five goals in four games, broke his leg in last Saturday's FA Trophy success over Hinckley United after scoring twice and will be out for eight weeks.

Harris welcomes back young midfielder Allan Stevenson to the squad after a foot injury but Academy product Richard French, who plays on the wing, is still out with an Achilles' problem.
