TEAMS of police officers continued their hunt yesterday for the body of missing teenager Jenna Baldwin on isolated land in the Valleys.

A search team spent the day combing the large area of land around the Pwllddu waste tip near Blaenavon.

Another team continued searching the verges and hedges on the quiet road between Llanfoist and Govilon.

These two teams are expected to spend most of the week concentrating on these areas as they were identified by search managers over the weekend as places where the body of 15-year-old Jenna may be.

Although search managers are confident of having comprehensively covered the quarry where they spent much of last week, returning to the vast Cwm Llasgarn woods sometime in the next few weeks is a possibility.

Chief Inspector John Oliver, the officer leading the hunt for Jenna, said the land is littered with culverts and abandoned mine shafts that will require the attention of specialist teams.

For the first time in more than a week, officers were not impeded by the elements as the day remained dry - but they are now having to start earlier, as the light starts to fade by late afternoon.

Chief Inspector Oliver said: "We will be continuing to concentrate the search on the roadside from Blaenavon towards Abergavenny, and the waste tip at Pwllddu."

He added that extra officers may be drafted in from today to help with the search. On Monday and Tuesday a combined total of 15 officers have been available to carry out the searches at the various locations.

Michael Baldwin, the 36-year-old poultry factory worker from Limekiln Road, Pontnewynydd, was charged with the murder of his stepdaughter over the weekend.

He is due to appear before Newport crown court tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the difficulty the police have in searching the terrain north of Pontypool has not been lost on the public.

One man from Abersychan, who did not want to be named, said: "There are a thousand places where Jenna might be.

"I don't envy the police because I think they have an impossible job in finding her."
