THE STEPFATHER of missing teenager Jenna Baldwin was appearing before magistrates in Newport today after being charged with her murder.
Detectives charged Michael Baldwin, 37, pictured, on Saturday evening after he was held in custody for more than four days.
Two applications had to be made to local magistrates to give officers on the case more time to quiz Mr Baldwin.
He was charged just hours before the 10.45pm deadline for questioning.
The poultry factory worker was taken from the central police station in Newport at 9.30am today to appear before magistrates.
Meanwhile, the grim search for Jenna was continuing in the area surrounding a disused quarry and woodland near Abersychan.
Specially trained cadaver dogs have been brought in from the Forensic Search Advisory Group to help police with a search that has so far been hampered by the elements.
Jenna's mother Desiree is currently being supported by Gwent police family liaison officers.
Chief Inspector John Oliver, who is leading the investigation into Jenna's disappearance, said: "It is very difficult for Mrs Baldwin to have any sort of normality."
