EBBW Vale scrum-half Bryan Shelbourne will run out for the Steelmen against Bridgend at Eugene Cross Park tomorrow hoping the positive feelings around Eugene Cross Park continue.

Shelbourne played a big part in Ebbw Vale's 16-13 win over Swansea last Tuesday on a wet and dreary night and, like everyone else associated with the club, the former Connacht player is hoping the home side can secure a second successive win.

Having endured a poor Celtic League campaign with just a home win over Caerphilly to show for their efforts, Vale wrapped up a win against a weakened Swansea side and Shelbourne thinks they are showing signs of gelling as a unit.

So often this season, Vale have let themselves down by leaking weak tries and producing poor tackling, usually after putting in plenty of good work.

But with the Celtic League now behind them, Vale can concentrate on their second game in the Welsh Premier Division .

Shelbourne said: "I just think we've turned the corner. We've had games all season where we have played well and then let ourselves down by giving away easy tries and silly penalties.

"Our win over Swansea was a good start for us, especially with Bridgend at home tomorrow.

"I went to watch them against my old team Connacht down at Bridgend and they looked a pretty good outfit. They have a good backline, so we'll expect a top quality side."

Most Vale players will agree that the lowest point of the season so far was the 34-7 defeat at Neath when the Welsh All Blacks ran in a hatful of tries before half time.

Memories of the match remain vivid among the players and Shelbourne admits the desire not to repeat that display is a motivating factor.

He said: "We missed 38 tackles in that game, it was the lowest point of the season, we let ourselves down badly.

"We said afterwards that if we play like that again their will be jobs on the line. We played poorly and we won't dare go down there and play like that again.

"That day was an embarassment to the club, but I think we can go down there and do well."

Coach Mike Ruddock had expected to name a similar side to the one which beat Swansea but with lock Neil Edwards and hooker Leyton Phillips both out with shoulder injuries, Peter Sidoli and Jon Evans are set to deputise.
