Newport County are out to complete something they have not managed since the opening games of the season when they host Havant and Waterlooville at Newport Stadium on Saturday.

Not since winning their first three games have they completed a hat-trick of successes in a so far disappointing campaign.

But that will change tomorrow if they can follow up their 1-0 FAW Premier Cup win over TNS and their 2-0 Dr Martens Cup extra-time win over Clevedon on Monday.

Goals by Mattie Rose and Neil Davis gave them that win, and a third success on the trot would be a massive confidence boost for the players and beleaguered boss Tim Harris. Despite their lack of goals, County should be good enough to shoot down opponents below them in the table.

Waterlooville have managed only three wins in 18th place for 14 points with County three points above them after five wins.

Records show there is rarely much between the sides with a draw the most common result since they first met in season 1997-98.

However, County did do the double over them last season and Harris commented: "We would love to do that again.

"Many people would have expected them to have been up in the top half of the table, but they have had a few injuries this season.

"They are still in the FA Cup and have an important game the week after playing us, against Dagenham and Redbridge, so their minds could be elsewhere.

"We have to go out with a very positive attitude and desire to get the job done." Alan Stephenson was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital last night for an X-ray on an ankle injury, while Richard French is out of tomorrow's clash after suffering a strained Achilles which was checked over yesterday.

Josh Dupres, who made his debut in the win over Clevedon, is out tomorrow with a dead leg, but Jeff Eckhardt returns to the squad after a one-match suspension for accumulating five bookings.

* Former Newport County player John 'Polly' Roland died on Wednesday night. The club will hold a one minute's silence before tomorrow's game with Havant & Waterlooville.

* Newport County's youth team clash with Clevedon tomorrow has been postponed.
