WORLD champion Joe Calzaghe is being lined-up to take on American veteran Thomas Tate next month.

But the 12th defence of the Newbridge star's WBO super-middleweight crown will take place in Britain and not in the United States as first thought.

IBF champion Sven Ottke and WBC king Eric Lucas have been other names in the frame to square-up against the Welshman.

But the Argus understands that Calzaghe's manager Frank Warren will confirm the Tate showdown in London tomorrow.

The bout, though, is unlikely to be staged in Cardiff where Calzaghe has staged his last three defences.

The Cardiff International Arena is fully booked so the showdown will go-ahead in England instead - possibly on December 14.

Calzaghe and his trainer/father Enzo will be delighted that they got their wish to fight before Christmas.
