A SPECIAL memorial concert is to be held in memory of a popular schoolboy who died after an accident on a Gwent road.

Seven-year-old Adam Burchill, pictured, died after being in an accident with a black Peugeot 206 as he played outside his home in Green Lane, Caldicot.

The Green Lane School pupil was rushed to the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, after the crash at 5pm on September 26.

He was later transferred to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where he died at 12.15pm the next day.

Adam died on the same day his great-grandmother, Marion Webb, 76, was being buried. Now Caldicot town councillor Colin Babb has organised a memorial concert for him on Friday, November 8, at 7.30pm.

Mr Babb said: "It has been organised in memory of Adam who was a very popular lad and who is sadly missed by the community."

Although speed was not a factor in the accident, residents of Green Lane told the Argus they wanted traffic calming measures to be extended the length of the road.

And Adam's parents, Ken Burchill, 45, and his wife, Janine, 34, also paid tribute to their "special little boy".

Mrs Burchill said: "I want people to know how handsome Adam was, and clever, and funny.

"He was a very special little boy and he's left a very big hole in the whole family."

Her husband added: "He made friends very easily and once you'd become his friend he never forgot you. He was a very caring, loving little boy."

Adam's football team, Portskewett and Sudbrook FC, also paid a touching tribute to their former team-mate.

The youngster had started playing football this year and was buried in his strip. In memory of their team-mate, the club agreed it would not have a number seven shirt any more.
