NEWPORT chief executive Keith Grainger has urged the Welsh Rugby Union to make a decision quickly on the structure for next season.

Grainger is a member of the eight-man working party -- four from the WRU and four from the premier clubs -- looking into the future make-up of the game in Wales.

Talks are continuing urgently, WRU chairman Glanmor Griffiths saying he expects a decision in December before putting that to all the clubs at an extraordinary meeting in January.

"The fate of the clubs is to be decided by the WRU, and it could be five teams whether they are regions, provinces or super teams," said Grainger.

"The most important things are where to play and the structure.

"But we need decisions and the guys need to know where they are. The axe will fall on some players and support staff and they have families to support and mortgages to pay.

"It's important to have a decision because it's having a negative effect on morale.

"It has been rumoured there will be Welsh only players for the Welsh League but that is nonsense, apart from employment law which would prevent that. But we need to know."

Grainger also confirmed the club expects Percy Montgomery to arrive from South Africa next week.

The Springbok star has played international rugby at full-back, outside-half and centre but full-back is his favourite position and that is where he is likely to feature for Newport.

Injured trio Ian Gough, Jonathan Pritchard and Jason Jones-Hughes are all expected to return to action for Newport United against Bristol United away on November 11.

Jones-Hughes could even feature in the Under-21s game against Swansea at Rodney Parade a week tomorrow.

Borders will be captained by vastly experienced Gregor Townsend at Rodney Parade tomorrow, returning after injuring a knee against Madrid a fortnight ago.

Borders also field giant locks Doddie Weir and Richard Metcalfe against untried Newport pairing Matthew Veater and Joe Powell.

They are without injury victims Shaun Longstaff, Cammie Murray, Gary Armstrong, Stephen Cranston and Craig Moir.

But also returning are flanker Matt Taylor and prop Paul Thomson. Number eight is Semo Sititi, who was with Cardiff last season.

The fledgling Scottish team have recovered from losing their first four games of the season, winning their next four by beating Leinster and Glasgow in the Celtic League and Madrid twice in the Parker Pen Cup.
