POLICE have branded calls made to missing schoolgirl Jenna Baldwin's family a 'cruel hoax'.

Her family and police now believe the text messages and whispered telephone calls have not come from the 15-year-old from Abersychan.

Police say somebody is 'playing on the emotions of the family' and are urging the person who is making the calls to stop.

Jenna has not directly contacted family or friends since she went missing on September 10.

However most of her close family members have received silent phone calls through the six weeks she's been missing.

The latest call was answered by Jenna's 10-year-old brother Josh on Saturday evening. Chief Inspector John Oliver said that the calls and texts are placing a great strain on the family, particularly upon Jenna's mum Desiree.

He added: "Desiree obviously gets quite hopeful but then gets the realisation that she doesn't think it's her.

"Please stop this now before you put the family through more turmoil."

Officers are taking steps to locate the phones from which the text messages and calls were made.

Police recently stepped up their hunt for the schoolgirl and are carrying out searches of fields near her home.

They are still appealing for Jenna to contact them.

CI Oliver said: "I am still appealing to Jenna to make contact with her mum or officers in Pontypool. We need to hear your voice."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room at Pontypool Police Station on 01495 232260.
