PAUL Baldwin left heavy industry this year to pursue a career demanding a lighter touch.
He worked at Llanwern Steelworks for 14 years as a casting controller before Newport & Gwent Enterprise helped him to realise his ambition to become a chiropodist.
"I realised that I had been given the chance to turn what was a genuine interest in feet into a successful career."
After completing two years training at the Greater Cheshire School of chiropody, Paul became a Member of the Association of Chiropodists and Podiatrists. Instead of joining an existing practice, Paul decided to start his own clinic.
"This was the most intimidating part as I had no experience of running my own business," he said. "Fortunately, Newport & Gwent Enterprise had given a presentation at Corus offering free business start-up advice.
"Without Newport & Gwent Enterprise, setting up on my own would have been far more daunting," he said. "I am looking forward to the advice and support I will get for the next three years."
Anyone thinking of starting a business - Paul's is at 8, Bath Street, Newport - or in the early stages of start-up can contact Newport & Gwent Enterprise on 01633 254041.
