POLICE say they are disappointed that the mother of the baby found dead beside a canal at Newbridge has not contacted them.

The baby boy was found in a green holdall on the banks of the canal on October 11.

Detective Inspector Rhiannon Hodges made a direct appeal to the mother and her family on Friday.

However nobody has so far come forward regarding the little boy.

DI Hodges said: "Your physical and mental wellbeing is of great concern to all of us. "The pain you are experiencing won't go away on its own.

"You will probably feel like this for the rest of your life unless you help us to understand where this little baby has come from, where he belongs."

On Friday night officers quizzed youngsters attending a fairground near where the baby was found. However they received no new leads or information about what happened to the tiny baby.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room on 01495 320309.
