A GRANDMOTHER who plans to speed round the Ulster Grand Prix track on a motorbike needed help just to get round her village.

Val Shepherdson, 59, is planning to ride on the back of former lap record-holder Jason Griffiths' bike at the Dundrod track in Belfast on August 17, to raise money for the Noah's Ark appeal, but was set back when she broke her leg at a race meeting on the Isle of Man.

Mrs Shepherdson, from Little Mill, near Pontypool, fell in the pits during the Southern Hundreds motorcycle race and is now being helped by the local youth club.

Mrs Shepherdson said: "The youth club volunteered to push me round the village in my wheelchair. They've been really wonderful."Anyone wanting to sponsor Mrs Shepherdson should contact her on 01495 785 311.
