THE funeral of Newport councillor Glyn Whitcutt took place at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Stow Hill, yesterday.
Councillor Whitcutt (pictured), who died of cancer at the age of 76 on July 21, was later buried at St Woolos Cemetery.
He had represented the Gaer ward since 1994.
Councillor Whitcutt's coffin was carried by Newport council leader Sir Harry Jones, fellow Gaer councillor John Pembridge, and councillors Ray Truman, Bob Bright, Miqdad Al-Nuaimi and Eddie Burke.
Councillor Whitcutt leaves a wife, Maureen, and a son, Mark.
Sir Harry remembered Councillor Whitcutt as "hard working" and "dedicated to the people of the Gaer ward".
Councillor Lindsay Al-Nuaimi, who sat with him on the board of Newport Housing Trust, said Councillor Whit-cutt had "a big heart and a strong sense of humour".
He had been ill for about two-and-a-half years, although he remained active up until the last month.
Councillor Al-Nuaimi said: "We were very much hoping that Glyn would be back with us soon and are much saddened by this loss."
