CHILDREN from a Newport choir were taken to hospital after a coach crash in Belgium yesterday.
Four youngsters and their driver remain in hospital after their vehicle was involved in a collision with a tram in Wenduine.
The party, from St Woolos Cathedral Choir, were on the second day of a Belgium tour.
The children's injuries are slight, but the driver is in a more serious condition. Sixteen children were taken to hospitals at Ostend, Bruges and Blankenberge.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: "Our priority is infoming the next of kin.
"All we know at this stage is that four children are still in hospital, along with the driver who is from South Wales. He has serious but not life-threatening injuries."
Canon Geoffrey Howell, of St Woolos, said: "News of this has come as a dreadful shock. We are trying to find out exactly what happened."
