GWENT sports' fans will get the opportunity to see some of Europe's Ryder Cup stars in action when international golf returns to The Celtic Manor Resort next month.

At least five members of the European team taking part in golf's greatest team event at The Belfry in September will also feature in the third annual Celtic Manor Resort Wales Open on August 8-11.

Wales' former world No 1 and US Masters champion Ian Woosnam, Darren Clarke (pictured) (Northern Ireland) and Lee Westwood (England) - who have between them have won 34 tournaments worldwide Thomas Bjorn (Denmark) and last year's Wales Open champion Paul McGinley (Ireland) are among the Ryder Cup names in action over Wentwood Hills - the course set to host the 2010 Ryder Cup.

The field also includes in form players like Thomas Levet of France, who tied for second place at the Open at Muirfield recently.

Leading the Welsh challenge, meanwhile, will be Gwent's own trio of Bradley Dredge, Phil Price and Richard Dinsdale.

In-form Dredge of Blackwood, the highest-ranked Welsh player on the Volvo Order of Merit at 19, tied for second place at the recent Smurfit Irish Open; 2001 Portuguese Open champion Price (Bassaleg) will be looking to improve on his third place at the Victor Chandler British Masters and the Compass Group English Open and former amateur international and 2000 PGA of Europe Champion Dinsdale, from Newport, will be taking part in his third consecutive Wales Open.

Ticket prices are £15 per day or £30 for a season ticket, and £8 and £15 for senior citizens/concessions, while children under 16 accompanied by an adult are allowed free entry.
