TWO horses were shot dead in a shocking incident on the outskirts of Tredegar. The horses - Jack and Lucy - are part of a group owned by John Pardoe and graze on Mynydd Bedwellty.
The horses, shot on Tuesday, were found by a farmer. Charmain Porter, aged 19, who was looking after the horses while her grandfather is at the Royal Welsh Show, said she was "horrified" someone could do such a thing.
She added: "For somebody to do this is disgusting. I am not sure how it happened I was quite shocked."
She said she came home from work and was told by her uncle that something had happened to the horses.
"At first I thought it was minor. When I found out they had been shot, I just couldn't believe it".
RSPCA superintendent Kevin Manning said the animal charity was investigating the incident.
He said: "These incidents come up from time to time and involve shooting with air rifles. "People that often have the weapons tend to be mindless and don't care what damage they cause.
"The use of air weapons does cause a lot of suffering". He said other horse owners in the area should be on their guard.
Blackwood police confirmed they had received a report of the incident. Anyone with information should call the RSPCA on 0870 5555999.
