YOUTH leader Neil Davies is hoping to shed pounds to raise pounds for two good causes.
Mr Davies has already lost two stone in his battle with the bulge. He now wants people to back his weight loss campaign with cash to raise money for Millbrook Youth Scene, in Bettws, and the Noah's Ark Appeal for a children's hospital in Wales.
"I used to be a football referee, but in the last ten years I have put on ten stones," said the 29-year-old Tesco checkout operator.
"I have had health problems. My ankles were swelling up and I couldn't stand on my feet for too long."
Mr Davies, of Cornbrook Road, Bettws, believes cutting out the 15 cans of cola he used to drink daily was playing a big part in helping him to lose weight.
The married father of one - who now weighs in at 22st 10lb - is being backed by his family, fellow youth leaders, club members, his doctor and colleagues.
His ten-year-old daughter, Jodie, has proved a big incentive in his fight against the flab. "People have been asking me if I want to see my daughter grow up."
Mr Davies wants to lose a total of ten stones, but is hoping people will sponsor him to lose another two stones.
People can pledge their support at a family fun day being held at Millbrook Community Centre, Bettws, from noon on August 11.
